Frequently asked questions

How much does ducted air conditioning cost in Melbourne?

Ducted reverse cycle air conditioning in Melbourne typically costs from around $8,000 for a smaller single-storey home to $20,000 or more for a large or double-storey home with several zones, before any discount.

What changes the price:

  • The size of the home
  • The number of zones
  • The brand
  • Whether ductwork needs replacing

Your written quote shows each of these on one page.

What discounts are available for air conditioning in Victoria?

The Victorian Energy Upgrades program discounts efficient reverse cycle systems when an older heater is replaced. The biggest discounts apply when a gas ducted heater is removed.

Eligibility depends on what you have now and what is installed. We confirm it at the assessment and apply it on your quote.

What is the difference between ducted and split system air conditioning?
  • Ducted: heats and cools the whole home from one indoor unit in the roof, with an outlet in each room and zones you control. Suits whole-home comfort.
  • Split: heats and cools one room each. Suits a single room or a home without roof space.
  • Multi-head split: sits in between, with several rooms on one outdoor unit.
Is gas ducted heating being phased out in Victoria?

Victoria is encouraging households to move from gas to efficient electric heating, and rules for new and replacement appliances are changing.

Existing gas heaters can still be used. At the assessment we explain what currently applies to your home and whether replacing now makes sense.

How long does installation take?
  • Single-storey ducted: usually one to two days.
  • Double-storey or new ductwork: takes longer.
  • Single split system: usually half a day.

Your quote states the expected timeline.

How often should a heating and cooling system be serviced?

Once a year is ideal for systems used in both summer and winter, and regular servicing can be a condition of the manufacturer's warranty.

Your first service is included with every Aircore installation.

Are modern reverse cycle systems expensive to run?

Modern inverter systems adjust their speed rather than switching on and off, which uses much less energy.

A correctly sized reverse cycle system usually costs less to run than a gas ducted heater for the same comfort. We walk you through expected running costs for your home at the assessment.

What areas of Melbourne do you service?

Metropolitan Melbourne, bayside and the Mornington Peninsula. Enter your postcode on the quote form and we confirm straight away.

Will the price change after I accept the quote?

No. The written quote is the price. If something unexpected is found on installation day, work stops and any change is explained and approved by you in writing first.

Which brands do you install?

Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Fujitsu and Panasonic. We recommend the model that suits your home and the quote lists model, capacity and energy rating.

What warranty do I get?

An Aircore workmanship warranty in addition to the manufacturer's warranty, both printed on your quote.

Do you work on double-storey homes?

Yes. We plan the indoor unit, duct or pipe runs and zoning for the upper floor at the assessment.
